"Still can't figure out what is going on with the BN Epub. I tried with three different books and still can't get it to open. I have tried my name with and without my middle initial (I authorize with fictionwise without) with caps, small letters, and initial letter capped only and even with my email address. I know the Credit Card info is correct, so I don't know why it isn't opening."

I haven't yet installed this firmware update because I'm not clear on whether or not you can now use B&N Epub files. No one has responded to djharkavy's question about this so I thought I'd follow up on it. Does anyone know for sure if you can open B&N DRM epub books with this new firmware update?

Thanks

Is there any update on when new firmware for the Jetbook Lite that will enable it to read Barnes and Noble drm epub documents will be released? While there are other sites that sell B&N drm pdb files such as fictionwise and ereader, they do not have nearly the selection as B&N. And the fact that a version of the Barnes and Noble Nook for 149$ is soon to be released with wifi capability makes the Jebook Lite look less and less attractive. This shortcoming needs to be addressed quickly if the Jetbook Lite is to remain a viable product.
Here is what I have discovered:

This firmware update seems to solve several problems. First, there is no text loss at the end of the page for DRMed PDB from ereader.com. Second, there is now an option for changing the alignment from full justification to left aligned. And third, I think they've fixed the problem with having to enter unlock information for each book. I tried this with three different books and was only asked for the information for the first one. I say this with the caveat that I've played with these books for a while and may have opened them previously. Hopefully someone else can confirm this. There may be other changes but I haven't found them yet.

Calibre is a freeware ebook Librarian that also converts between the various ebook formats. It will not, however, convert DRMed ebooks. The DRM must be removed first. You can find out more about Calibre at:

I think that because of Ectaco's advertising about the Jetbook Lite's compatibility with Barnes and Noble ebooks, it has been assumed that this means the JBL can read epub files directly fromt he B&N site. Hopefully this was only a communications error, because it is becoming clear that the JBL can only read DRMed PDB files from ereader.com and fictionwise.com, which are Barnes and Noble companies. I believe that all Jetbook Lite users would appreciate a very clear statement about DRM compatibility.
I always convert my ebooks to epub with Calibre before loading them onto my Jetbook Lite. I haven't even tried to read any Non-DRM pdb books on the JBL. Maybe it's not so much the ereader.com DRMed ebooks that are causing the problem with the missing text, but the PDB format itself.
I'm not sure of what improvements came with this new firmware .14n, but the problem with the missing text at the bottom of pages of DRMed pdbs is still there. As for other problems, I haven't had any issues reading my non-DRM content.
This isn't exactly step by step, but this is how you can do it: I did install the B&N reader for PC. This allows you to see your library on your PC once you've purchased the book. After you buy a book, you will receive an email about it, but the ebook immediately appears in your bookshelf at the B&N site. Pick out the book that you want to download and click download. The book will download and appear in the My B&N Books in your my documents folder. You can also download the book from you library on the PC reader software. Once it is downloaded to the My B&N Books folder, connect your Jetbook Lite to your computer and copy your book to wherever you want the book to reside on the device

PLEASE BE AWARE that at this point only PDB files from B&N can be opened on the JBL and even those don't read properly as they have text missing on the bottom of the page. Firmware to correct this problem is expected at any time. I hope this was helpful.
"I also have the same problem and every time I go from one book to another I have to re-enter unlock codes even if they have been unlocked before."

I haven't had to re-enter this information. I just opened a couple of books that I'd already entered the codes for and had no problems. Didn't read them of course because of the missing text at the bottom of the page.

You can call tech support and see what they say. The snippet below is from another thread about the Jetbook Lite and DRM. Note that it refers to firmware that is three versions outdated.

Dear Customer

Jetbook-Lite version 0.14i supports both epub and pdb books which are provided by Barnes and Noble. You may call at 1-718-728-6110 if You have any questions.

I think these are all good suggestions. I would especially like to see the implementation of user defined margins.
Robert: You may be right about the ereader. I recollected having to do the entry multiple times, but that was a long time ago and I may have misremembered. And yes, a certain dexterity is required to enter the name and number. The number - number system does seem to speed it. You know, press a button with the three letters and then the number of the letter you need - you can use all capitals letters for the name. I've gotten to be quite good at it. Still, I do hope they add the features you requested in the thread by that name.
When I had ereader on Palm I had to enter the information with each book. It would be nice if they change the JBL to accept this information once, but it's not a big deal to me. I only open the DRMed books when I want to read them and I don't mind the two minutes. Since DRMed books are still in their infancy on the JBL, in fact still not really working correctly, I wouldn't be surprised if this feature didn't show up as they refine the firmware.
