troubles searching the forums?

Feeling sheepish --
I'm unable to get any results when searching on these forums, even though I'm entering one-word queries that I know should return results... Is this a known problem, or am I doing something silly?
Sorry if this is a faq -- I had troubles, uh, searching to see if it was a FAQ =].

I've tried a few words, but just tried again with the word "custom" (no quotes) in the first field, and accepting all defaults. It returns 0 results, though I know there are posts with that word (I posted one =]).
I'm using firefox 2.0, and I've also tried using an Internet Explorer tab for this. Same results...

Did you ever reply to this one? I just tried 'dictionary' and only got one, yet I've put two on myself recently. What's happening please?

The search function seems very spotty at best. Lots of words that I've tested that I know to be in the title or body of messages turn up no results. Once in a while, I get a search result -- but most of the time get none ("0 topics were found").
